Why whiskey is the favorite drink of so many people
Millions of people all over the world prefer whiskey over any other alcoholic beverage. In today’s article, Adam Richard Seger explores the wonderful world of whiskey.
Whiskey has been around for centuries and was brought to Europe from Ireland by Christian missionaries. The quality of the beverage relied on the quality of ingredients used in making it, so whiskey was often made with barley, oats, rye, or malted barley. The mixture was then distilled until the alcohol content reached 80%. It was then left to age in oak casks for at least three years before being sold.
Whiskey was first distilled in China during the Yuan Dynasty and it is believed that Marco Polo brought this knowledge to Europe. At that time, whiskey was thought of as a “medicinal potion” and was often prescribed for sick patients in order to aid in their recovery.
Whiskey was highly popular in the United States in the 19th century and this is when some of its most famous brands were introduced to the American market, such as Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and Jim Beam Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
Adam Richard Seger also notes that whiskey became extremely popular in the United States in the mid-1800s when a new way to distill it was invented, which resulted in lower levels of production costs and higher profit margins.
Whiskey nowadays has a variety of flavors and aromas, such as vanilla, caramel, honey, or cinnamon, which only add to its appeal. Whiskey is also often combined with other drinks such as Coca-Cola, with mixed results.
Furthermore, whiskey has a loyal fan base throughout the world and people who love it can’t be swayed otherwise. They find whiskey drinks appealing no matter their taste or aroma and they swear by their favorite brand, Adam Richard Seger adds.
